Battlefield 3 is a fantastic game, sure it has a nice campaign to play through, but the multiplayer of this game is where all the fun is at! This game stays true to its roots of previous games in the franchise while adding little extras here and there. The first thing you will notice with this game is its beautiful visuals, they are top of the line, and when you are in the middle of a 64 players battle you will sit back in awe of this technical powerhouse.
Personally the Battlefield first person shooter franchise has been my favorite in PC gaming. I’ll never forget when I played Battlefield 1942 for the first time, the idea of playing competitive matches in that grand scale just blew my mind. After playing large scale battles like that I could just never go back. BF3 carries on where the original game innovated; this game follows the formula of the previous games perfectly, and only really tries to add quality realism as an addition.
The one short coming of this game is the single player, while it’s not bad it’s just not that great, and really not needed. Battlefield 3 is the first main Battlefield game to add a single player campaign, and it shows. There are some extra co-op missions which are a little more unique as far as gameplay and can be fun to play with others. I just look at the single player as being a nice little additional icing on the cake. I don’t think the average gamer really cares about that whether it was solid or bad, as we all know Battlefield is known for the multiplayer much like the Quake or Unreal games were specifically built for that.
The multiplayer is fantastic as you would expect, and it sets the standards for visual detail in first person shooters. This game will blow your mind in what beauty it can display, 64 players flying, blasting, and blowing up stuff all at the same time. The maps are for the most part very well designed and they definitely are all beautiful, the vast landscapes you can travel across will amaze you. After playing online matches on maps like this things will never be the same in those corridor first person shooters. Of course in true Battlefield form you get to man many different land, sea, and air vehicles to fight and travel across these large playing fields.
Just like the previous games in Battlefield 3 you get to pick from 4 different classes (Recon, Assault, Soldier, Engineer) each with their own special ability and weapons that only they can have. None of the classes feel more overpowered than the others, they each have their pros and cons, it is up to the player to decide when or how they should utilize the class.
Battlefield 3 has a reward and progress system, which will keep you playing more and more. You will be able to unlock things like new camouflage for your character or add additional features to vehicles you can man, and of course there are additional weapons you will unlock all along the way for each class. You earn score for doing different positive things in the game, like say simply making a kill but also for doing teamwork like capturing a position or healing a friend or repairing a vehicle.
Gameplay wise the biggest addition in this game from the last main Battlefield, Battlefield 2, is the ability to destroy objects in online games. Not only is this amazing to see and fun to do, but this is also a huge strategic feature. Like if there are some pesky snipers up in a building instead of running up the stairs to kill them, just blow up the building to push them out! Most of all the buildings that players can enter in are destroy-able in some form. A lot of self contained building can actually be totally leveled which is just awesome to do and smash players residing in the building with rubble.
Battlefield 4 reminds us all that Battlefield is still the king of online PC shooters still, and that bigger in this case really is better. There really is not other equivalent to BF3 out there on the market, if you love FPS games then there is no reason why you should not have played this game by now, download this game now and thank me later.
